    A of the members of the  IALE Working Group Spatial Analysis of Organisms in the Environment has recently written a book entitled “Individual-based Methods in Forest Ecology and Management” published by Springer. Landscape ecology in forests and woodlands is an integration of structurally different fields. The book put the main ones together to provide practical approaches that can be well implemented in sustainable management of forest ecosystems and their assessment from ecological point of view. The book is consisted of seven chapters and integrates three main fields of tree/plant interactions, biometry of plant growth and human behaviour in forests. The book introduces methods that can reveal interactions of individual plants with other plants, their environment and human. Understanding the individual-based spatial interactions of plants can provide deep insight to establishment and formation of plant communities as one of the main goals in landscape ecology.

    The journal Land (ISSN 2073-445X, IF 3.398) is currently running a Special Issue entitled “Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity of Peri-Urban Landscapes". Prof. Dr. Christine Fürst, Dr. Marcin Spyra, Dr. Nica Claudia Caló and Dr. HongMi Koo are serving as Guest Editors for this issue.

    For this Special Issue of Land, they invite authors to submit theoretical considerations and descriptions of practical case studies concerning ecosystem services (ES) and the biodiversity of peri-urban landscapes (PULs).

    Specifically, they welcome papers discussing the following topics:

    • Assessment and valuation methods of ES in PULs;
    • ES and biodiversity trade-offs in PULs;
    • Methods to delimitate ES benefitting and providing areas in the extend of PUL;
    • Gaps between demand and provision of ES in PULs;
    • ES deficit areas in PULs.
    The submission deadline is 15 March 2022. Find more details at the Special Issiue website:

    Journal of Landscape Ecology is a fully reviewed scientific journal published by Czech National Chapter of the Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE-CZ) since 2008. Currently, three issues and more than 20 articles are published annually. The journal is available in print (ISSN 1803-2427) and online as open access (ISSN 1805-4196) published by De Gruyter Open (https://sciendo.com/journal/JLECOL).

    The Journal supports integration of knowledge from geo-, bio- and socio-sciences at the ecosystem and landscape level. Great emphasis is given to relationships between nature and culture including knowledge of ancient landscapes. The Journal publishes papers on spatial and temporal heterogeneity especially in the context of climate change and its impacts on terrestrial environment across adequate scale hierarchy. Expertise from the spheres of land-use planning and design, habitat and landscape typology, ecosystem management, biodiversity protection and ecological restoration, and rules of ecological processes are promoted. The scope of the journal includes different landscapes and ecosystems of the world.

    Between 2019 and 2021, articles by authors from the following countries were published: Benin, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, USA.
